Taizé Service

Taizé at Carlisle Cathedral

The Taizé community is an ecumenical monastic order with a strong devotion to peace and justice through prayer and meditation, founded in France in 1940 by Brother Roger Louis Schutz-Marsauche. Taizé has spawned a unique style of worship that has become popular in churches, retreat centres and seminaries throughout the world.

Taizé services offer a distinctive worship experience, including the singing of much-repeated chants during candlelit prayer services and Taizé music is highlighted by the use of simple phrases, usually lines from the Psalms or other pieces of scripture, repeated or sung in canon. The repetition is designed to help meditation and prayer.

With chants sung by our Taizé Choir this is a gentle and reflective service of worship, giving you an opportunity for time and space in a busy world. Our Taizé service is held on the third Sunday each month at 4.15pm. Everyone is welcome to join us.
