Daily Services

Worship is at the heart of the Cathedral's life. Morning and Evening Prayer is offered here every day. At some point during the day, the Eucharist (the Holy Communion) is celebrated. In the Eucharist we acknowledge God's activity in us and in the world and, together as Christ's body, know new life in him.

The Book of Common Prayer (BCP) is regularly used at Evening Prayer. Common Worship (CW) is used at most other services.

Evensong is sung in term time every day except Saturday.

The daily pattern of prayer:

07.40 Morning Prayer (CW)
08.00 Holy Communion (BCP)
10.30 The Cathedral Eucharist (CW)
15.00 Choral Evensong (BCP)

Special Services

It is a particular privilege of the Cathedral to be able to host many special services in the course of the year. These services seek to respond to particular causes for celebration or of sadness in the life of the county, city or the nation. Organisations also regularly approach the Cathedral to ask that an act of worship be held which allows them to offer thanksgiving and prayer for the work in which they are engaged.

Recent special services have included:

NHS 70th Anniversary Service - The Judges' Service - Battle of Britain Service - Christian Aid Service - Eden Valley Hospice Carol Service - Duke of Lancaster’s Regimental Carol Service - Children’s Society Christingle Service - Dementia Friendly Service

Organisations wishing to hold a special service at the Cathedral are asked to contact the Commercial and Administration Co-ordinator in the first instance. Contact or telephone 01228 548151

PLUS Services for Families
Our monthly PLUS servces are created specially for families and young people, who help us lead the service. With music sung by our Boys, Girls and Senior Girls and often with our community children's choir, cantate, these services are an informal way to engage with Christian themes - through songs, stories and activities.

We have a special Taizé service on the third Sunday every month. Find out more about this gentle and reflective style of worship here.
