Prayer Box

Prayer is the heart beat of the Cathedral. You are invited to join us in the pattern of prayer that is a vital part of the Cathedral’s life.

The Cathedral, its Mission and its Ministry

On Sunday, join us as we pray for all those who gather for worship here – that they may know Christ in his holy word and in the breaking of bread at the Eucharist.

On Monday, join us in our prayers for who assist in the preparation for and celebration of worship in the Cathedral: the Cathedral Vergers, the Guild of Priests, the Sidespersons, our flower arrangers and bell ringers. We pray for the Dean as he oversees this part of the Cathedral’s life.

On Tuesday, we pray for the Mission and Outreach of the Cathedral. Pray with us for Canon Michael Manley’s work as Canon Missioner, for work with young people and all that happens in The Lodge as it serves as a base for Mission and a community resource, for our monthly “Connect” service and for our “Critical Mass” celebrations.

On Wednesday, join us in our prayers for Ministry and Hospitality at the Cathedral. We pray for all our visitors and pilgrims and those who serve them as Welcomers and Guides, in the Cathedral Shop and in the Prior’s Kitchen restaurant. Pray with us for Canon Jan Kearton, the Canon Warden, and the Pastoral Link Group whose members visit former worshippers at the Cathedral who are confined to their homes across the town and region. Pray for those who assist the Chaplaincy at the Cumberland Infirmary; for the work of the Mothers Union Branch; for the Voluntary Catering Team.

On Thursday, we pray for the work of Education in the Cathedral. For the Fratry Project and our plans to develop this work. For the Fratry Appeal and for a generous response to this attempt to raise the match funding the project needs. We pray for work with young people who visit the Cathedral, and for our Godly Play team who work with young people on Sundays.

On Friday, join us as we pray for Music in the life of the Cathedral. We pray for Jeremy Suter, the Master of Music, for Ed Taylor, the Assistant Organist, for the choristers and lay clerks, for the Youth Choir, the Voluntary Choir and the Taize Choir. We pray too for the Sing Out Music Outreach project. We give thanks for the many artistic gifts which so enrich our life here.

On Saturday, we pray for all who work to maintain and enhance the Fabric of the Cathedral and its precinct. We give thanks for the Cathedral Friends and benefactors and, in particular, for the programme to re-light the entire Cathedral building which has been successfully completed in 2012.

We pray too for all who share in the Governance and Administration of the Cathedral, especially the Chapter Clerk and the staff of the Cathedral office.

The world in its need

Jesus, light of the world,
Bring the light and peace of your gospel to the nations
Especially we pray for ...

Jesus, lord of all life
In your mercy, hear us
And be with us always. Amen.

Healing and wholeness

Jesus, good shepherd, who gave your life for the sheep,
Strengthen the sick and give courage to those in anxiety
Especially we pray for ...

Jesus, lord of all life
In your mercy, hear us
And be with us always. Amen.

The Bereaved and those who have died

Jesus, the resurrection and the life,
Receive into your care those who have died
And comfort all who mourn.
Especially we pray for ...

Jesus, lord of all life
In your mercy, hear us
And be with us always. Amen.
