Visiting and Events

The Cathedral is usually open daily from 7.30am to 6.15pm Monday to Saturday, and 7.30am to 5.00pm on Sunday.

Please note from 2 January 2018, small changes are being made to the times of Morning Prayer and Evensong on weekdays. Morning Prayer moves from 7.40am to 8.00am – with the Eucharist following immediately on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Evensong (or said Evening Prayer) moves from 5.30pm to 5.45pm Monday to Saturday.  No changes are being made to Sunday  worship times.

Please note that the Cathedral is regularly used for a variety of public and private events which may not be highlighted in the website diary. 

If you are making a special trip to visit Carlisle Cathedral please call 01228 548151 (office) or 01228 535169 (vergers) to check that you will be able to access the area(s) of particular interest to you.

New Director of Music

South Porch receives award

The work done on the restoration of the South Porch in 2015 has been recognised in the Natural Stone Awards 2016.  The Renewal of the South Porch won the Craftmanship category.
