Music for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee – a special service at Carlisle Cathedral
For all who love and support Cathedral music, there could scarcely be a more fitting tribute to her Majesty The Queen in the Diamond Jubilee year of her accession than the publication of a collection of anthems composed in the decade since her Golden Jubilee in 2002. The Choir Book is published by Canterbury Press and was launched at a special service of Choral Evensong on St Cecilia's Day (22 November) in Southwark Cathedral. Cathedral and choral foundation choirs will sing the anthems in the context of services, many of which will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and on local radio. On Sunday 5th February a set of Choir Books will be presented for use by the Cathedral Choir. One of the anthems will be sung at that service. The books have been donated to the Cathedral by Mrs Jane Hasell-McCosh of Dalemain. Mrs McCosh said "I am very thrilled to be able to give this gift to the Cathedral and the choir as they have a very special place in my heart since first we came to Cumbria in the 70's when my father was made Bishop of Carlisle."
The Dean of Carlisle, the Very Revd Mark Boyling, said “This project is a wonderful way of recognising her Majesty's 60 years of dedicated service. We are very pleased to be among the first Cathedrals to be using anthems from the Choir Book for the Queen.
