Director of Music

Mark Duthie is the Director of Music.  He came to Carlisle Cathedral in 2017, having previously been Organist and Director of Music at Brecon.

Assistant Organist
Edward Taylor has been Assistant Organist at Carlisle Cathedral since 2008, previously holding posts as Organ scholar at Ely Cathedral, Leeds Parish Church, Wakefield Cathedral and Portsmouth Cathedral over a period of 7 years. Alongside his current position, Edward directs the Cathedral Youth Choir and Cantate Children’s Choir. He also plays a major role in the cathedrals Outreach scheme in local primary schools. Edward is in demand both as a solo recitalist and also as an accompanist and plays regularly for local choirs in this latter role. In his spare time Edward enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, walking in the Lakes and playing snooker and squash. 

Organ Scholar

The organ scholarship is jointly funded by the Friends of Cathedral Music, The Pilling Trust and the Ouseley Trust.

Choral Scholarships

Choral scholarships are available each year.  Enquiries for the year beginning September 2019 should be addressed to the Director of Music.
