Heritage Open Day 2016
Heritgage Open Day
Every September the Prior's Tower (and sometimes the Fratry) are opened to the public as part of the Heritage Open Weekend.
In 2016 there was an exhibition in the Fratry to mark the 90th birthday of the Queen, chronicling the cathedral's worship and its witness during the Queen's 90 years. The Prior's Tower and bell tower were also opened for the day.
In 2015 there was a special exhibition in the Fratry to mark the 25th anniversary of the opening of the cathedral treasury and in support of the Dean and Chapter’s Heritage Lottery Bid for the Fratry Project. The exhibition brought together a range of fascinating artefacts, photographs, prints, maps, plans and books to illustrate the 2000 year history and archaeology of the cathedral site from Roman times through the Middle Ages, Tudor and Stuart periods to the present day.
