The Canon Warden

The Canon Warden takes a lead role in caring for God’s people who come to the Cathedral as worshippers, visitors and pilgrims, as well as regular members of the Cathedral community. With her colleagues on the Cathedral Chapter and a team of trained lay people, she attempts to convey the warmth of the Christian Gospel and to promote the sense that it is freely available to all. Our prayer is that all who enter the Close and Cathedral may feel welcomed, accepted and loved.

The Reverend Canon Jan Kearton was collated by the Bishop of Carlisle and installed by the Dean on Sunday June 23rd during Choral Evensong.  Jan previously served as Vicar of Hipswell, the parish which surrounds Catterick Garrison. She trained for the ordained ministry at NEOC and St Chad’s College Durham for three years before being ordained in 2004 to serve in the Parish of Richmond. In her career before ordination, Jan ran her own business consulting in psychology and ergonomics to industry, commerce and other specialist organisations.
