The Canon Warden
The Canon Warden
The Canon Warden takes a lead role in caring for God’s people who come to the Cathedral as worshippers, visitors and pilgrims, as well as regular members of the Cathedral community. With his colleagues on the Cathedral Chapter and a team of trained lay people, he attempts to convey the warmth of the Christian Gospel and to promote the sense that is freely available to all. Our prayer is that all who enter the Close and Cathedral may feel welcomed, accepted and loved.
It was announced on Sunday March 3rd that the Bishop, working with the Cathedral Chapter, has appointed - subject to the usual requirements - The Reverend Janet Kearton, Vicar of Hipswell (Deanery of Richmond) in the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds as a Residentiary Canon (Canon Warden) of Carlisle Cathedral.
Jan has served as Vicar of Hipswell, the parish which surrounds Catterick Garrison, since 2008. She trained for the ordained ministry at St Chad’s College Durham for three years before being ordained in 2004 to serve in the Parish of Richmond. In her career before ordination, Jan ran her own business consulting in psychology and ergonomics to industry, commerce and other specialist organisations.
The date for Jan’s installation has also been announced. She will be collated by the Bishop of Carlisle and installed by the Dean on Sunday June 23rd during Choral Evensong at 3.00pm.
