Ash Wednesday - Sung Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes

Ash Wednesday is an important holy day in the Christian calendar, marking the beginning of Lent; a time of prayer, fasting and repentance in the 40-day period leading up to Easter.
This special Eucharist service will include the customary Imposition of the Ashes, where palms from last year's Palm Sunday are burnt and the ashes blessed. The sign of the cross will be made on our foreheads with this ash: a sign of penitence and a symbol of mortality. Those who participate make a pledge to renounce sin and be faithful to Christ.
All are welcome to attend this service, whether participating in the Imposition of the Ashes or otherwise. Music will be sung by the Cathedral Choir.
The service will take place at 12:30pm and at 7:30pm on Wednesday 6 March.
